Birth Plan

Let’s prepare a birth plan (a statement of your wishes about the birth)!

Childbirth is one of the most important events for a woman. It is an important activity that occurs only a few times in a woman’s life, where she puts her whole body and soul into creating life.

Even if you give birth overseas instead of your own country, its importance does not change.

And the cultural and religious background of all women should be respected.

In Japan, birth plans are becoming more and more popular, and people are telling hospitals what they want their birth to be like.

Not all wishes in a birth plan can be fulfilled, depending on the facilities of the hospital, the policy of the doctors, and the situation of the mother and baby.

However, proper communication with the hospital staff will help you build trust with the medical professionals who will be supporting you for the birth, and will also help you take better care of yourself and your baby.

Especially for foreign women living in Japan, they often face the day of delivery without being able to tell their wishes to the hospital due to the language barrier. And it is often difficult for them to experience a satisfactory birth.

As such, Mother’s Tree Japan, a non-profit organization, has created a multilingual birth plan sheet for foreign women living in Japan as a tool to properly communicate their wishes to their doctors.

Please put ✓ in the boxes of what you wish to do, give the birth plan sheet to the hospital at an early stage, and let them know your intentions.

Especially if it includes religious issues, it is very important not to hold back and let them know so that they can help you as much as possible.

It is important to experience a satisfying childbirth as possible, since that will help you have the mindset to be able to speak out when you need help after childbirth and when you would like to communicate your wishes and needs.

Please use this sheet as your first step.

You can download, print, and use it freely.

Also, if you don’t have a printer, we can send it to you with a set of other useful parenting information for free, so please apply here.

We support blessed birth of all women.
